About Me

Retired and surviving in Chiang Mai Thailand. Golfing (when fit), reading, music, photography and computing are my pastimes of choice, with the occasional Jameson's  washing down the grime. More than an occasional cleansing pilgrimage to Luang Prabang, Laos and a change of brew!

A granddad of no note with 3 great kids and 5 great grand kids, I'm told. Although very reticent when it comes to finding out for myself. Maybe one day. Wifeless, loveless and thoughtless with no future plans to change the situation.

Extract from my local newspaper:
Dudley Colliery, Northumberland

"Miner Kevin Kemp decided he'd had enough of a life underground at Dudley Pit and left in 1964 to join the Royal Navy and see the world. Kevin, formerly of Annitsford, served with the Navy until 1971 when he briefly returned to the area with his former wife and three young children.

Settling back into civvy street civilian life  wasn't easy and making ends meet was more difficult by the day." Still restless, he flitted from one job to another, including opencast mining at Widdrington, sewer construction at North Shields and making artificial legs at Newcastle's Freeman Hospital.

He eventually took off to the Middle East to work on oil production contracts in Saudi Arabia, Abu Dhabi, Dubai and the Sultanate of Oman before retiring 20 years later.

Kevin says: "It was during my leave periods in the oil industry that I fell in love with Thailand and its people and culture. When I became disenchanted with the job in Oman the choice of where to lay my hat wasn't very difficult."

Now divorced, Kevin, now 75, decided to make his home in Chiang Mai, enjoys his days playing golf with other North East expatriates and a mixture of several other nationals.

"I love my life here. I have an affinity with the Thai people, the weather is gorgeous and the country is beautiful. I enjoy the time I spend with other expats over here and I travel as much as I can around Thailand and South East Asia."
